Hi Fellow travellers
North Africa is in the news a lot at present, and some countries around the med will be difficult to travel to or in for a while.
The country I am interested in visiting later this year is Mali.
Some of the reports coming out of there are not so good, others sound fine, perhaps depending on which area of this large desert country you are looking at. Has anyone who has been in the past 12 months anything to report about visiting Mali?

Timbuktu always have travel warnings - best to fly than to drive. I loved Mali - lots to see, visited 2 yrs ago so no currently info :(
Thanks Pam, that is very helpful information.
re the use of this site of TCC, I hope they advertise it a bit and that people will shift across to it and share their huge experience of travel with others.
Cheers

Hi Tony,
I just came across an excellent blog written by the author of the Rough Guide to West Africa. There's a posting from a few weeks ago that might be able to answer your questions. Also, check out his links in "further reading," which are really good. Rough Guide to West Africa
Most TCC members don't know about the existence of this new interactive website, so it's going to take some time to get some action on it.
