  • Hi Merry Jo,

Sorry for my delayed reply, but I do not check on the Forum entries too often.....

Anyway, thanks for your warm words. Trying to answer your question, I would give La Palma at least two weeks, one of which should include a car rental. In case you are based in the South of the island (and not somewhere in the center close to Sta. Cruz or Los Llanos), think about 2 weeks of rental car. Generally, the weather on the Los Llanos side is nicer, but we experienced long phases of perfect weather around Sta. Cruz, too. Your car trips should include the North, a nice rum factory, Los Tilos nature reserve, and Charco azul rock pools, for example, as well as Roque de Los Muchachos in the mountains (a full day trip in itself). In addition, the barren South is worth a day trip (salines, light house, some beaches without rocks). Other attractions, however, can be booked locally (again, when based in the island's center) or with a hotel pickup (e.g. whale-watch trips, volcano hiking, or special star-gazing excursions), so that you can relax at (maybe rocky) beaches and with whatever your hotel has to offer without a car of your own. In any way, make sure to reserve a day (or two ;-)) for beautiful Sta. Cruz itself...... Conclusion: 2 weeks include relaxed seeing of almost all sights, 3 weeks would do so in a very relaxed way! KR, Armin :)))))))

  • Armin,  I've enjoyed watching your Canary Islands presentation again. How many days do you recommend we save to explore La Palma without rushing? I appreciate your thoughts. Merry Jo Binkley
