The rural city of Lalibela is known for its 11 medieval monolithic churches hewn into the rocks. It is one of the most mystical cities of the country and the main centre of pilgrimage of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The excavation of the temples was initiated in the 12th Century by order of King XII Lalibela. In this video footage I show a few religious moments inside the twin churches of Bet Golgotha and Sina, included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites since 1978.
