Thanks for your compliments on the pictures. The volcano Erta Ale happens to be the world's oldest continuous lava lake where a new layer of earth gets formed everyday. The volcano is situated in Ethiopia in the Danakil depression ( where 3 of the earth's plates meet resulting in lot of geo thermal activities) it also happens to be one of the world's hottest regions. The nearest airport would be mekele and from there on its a drive leading to the volcano followed by a trek to the volcanic cone. You need to watch the volcanic crater from the cone and need to wear a mask to protect from the volcanic gases. The sights of lava formations during the night are really spectacular.
Thanks Tom! That is my wife, Lana, with me on the tiny oceanic island of Sipadan on the East coast of Sabah. Diver's paradise... which explains the Canadian bikini Lana is sporting. ;)
