Hello fellow travelers!
New member as of today, and hoping that someone will have suggestions on Tasmania. We're leaving tomorrow and will be in Tasmania at the beginning of September. Currently looking to visit the east side of the country and was hoping to find a guide or local to show us around since we only have a short period of time there and want to maximize what we can see without joining a tour.
Has anyone had luck finding good local guides in Tasmania?
Many thanks!

Hi Tony -
Thanks for your suggestions! We're coming for 4 full days (from the USA) and flying into Hobart. We thought for this first trip, we would focus on the east coast and nature (with a bit of wine mixed in there!). Will certainly take your input into mind as we figure out where go ultimately. Thank you again for your quick response.

Cause we speak good English and its a very small place, a guide is not necessary in Tassie.
You did not say how long you were going for or where you are coming from. But if you are flying in, as most people do, rent a car and drive around. Drive on left and the roads are narrow and have quite a few bends but great scenery.
The west coast has more interesting things to see but it depends on what you like.
No chance of swimming in Tas, only for about 3 days in January.
If you like modern art see the fabulous gallery in Hobart. If you like wine, go to Launceston 2 hours north.
If you like coastal mountains and wild beaches go to the Hazzards on the east coast.
If you like to ski there will be some somewhere.
South of Hobart try the Tasman Peninsular and Port Arthur.
If you like to walk, its probably not the best month for it. Could be very cod and wet.
Its a great little state
Cheers
Tony
