As a European, using my mobile phone abroad for both data and voice is as cheap within any EU country as it is back home. But up until today, roaming can be very expensive outside of your own single market. For my journeys a bit further away, I discovered a little sticker I attached to my own SIM card. Via my mobile phones menu (iPhone), I can now switch between my home SIM and my roaming SIM, making data roaming much, much cheaper:
Thailand starts at 2,50$ for 100 MB (up to 15$ for 4GB)
Russia: 10$ for 7GB
Japan: $3,50 for 200MB, 15$ for 1GB
There is also a more expensive tariff that is valid in most of the countries in the world, starting at 30$ for 1GB. A starter pack is available at http://roam.my/2A8KF293 with worldwide shipping.
Greetings from the Netherlands,
Jan
