We are planning to travel to the Golden Triangle in early Oct. Plan to see sights in Thailand, perhaps an eco lodge, travel across river to visit just the markets on the Burma side (will postpone seeing the country properly until another visit.) Looking for any recommendations on hotels, guides/drivers you may have used, sights, etc.

Next we would like to take a 2/3 Mekong cruise to Luang Prabang; would appreciate a cruise line recommendation.

From Luang Prabang we are interested in flying over to the Plain of Jars; all suggestions related to this sortie are welcomed.

Thank you.

  • If you are on a budget, you should definitely do the Golden Triangle. Obviously, you would be visiting Laos before Myanmar since it would take another 30 minutes to reach Myanmar. I was able to get to Laos first before Myanmar when I was conflicted with time constraints to get to 3 countries: Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.

During that time, I was in Germany; Switzerland as well as embarking on a trip to Cambodia and Indonesia!
