Regarding Iraq, have any of you had any recent experiences?
Recommendations for Tours?
I have been an aspiring TCC member for 20+ years. Finally, I am at 94 countries. My goal this year is to finish the 100. (I go to Alaska this month, so I will be at 95.)
I am married to a Chaldean, born at Baghdad. But I cannot seem to entice him to visit there. So I guess I'll go without him. I have another gal who wants to go with me.
Going to Iraqi Embassy at Los Angeles tomorrow, to get a visa...

Have visited 197 countries - did Iraq with Spiekermann Travel in March 2017. Ten travelers in the group with an archeological professor from USA as our guide and Iraqi military escort. We were accompanied by everything from a car with a removable siren to a tank. We started in Basra and visited the confluence of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, the marshes, Uruk, Ur, etc. up to Babylon and Baghdad (at the time not safe to travel further north).

Thank you very much. Believe or not, this is one good "ole" Southern Boy who reads the Times daily.
I don't have a blog but a very good article that sums up a lot what there is to see in Iraqi Kurdistan is Tim Neville's Travel Section lead article in the NY Times on February 4, 2018. Erbil is a big city (over a million) and, like the rest of the country, benefiting from the vigorous economy.

Thank you Carol. We are visiting 5 Stans Apr/May--stopping in Erbil going and coming. If you blog, please share with us. Since Saudi has opened up, will also go there and MAYBE Baghdad enroute. Walt
I'm just back from Iraqi Kurdistan with Lupine Tours. Other than very basic hotel accommodations, it was a wonderful trip and I highly recommend it.
We are using AA FF Miles (Brit Air) from ATL (overnight London) to Erbil and ret. Independent tvl. Three days Erbil (in and out). From Erbil, FLYDUBAI to/from the STANS. Three -four wks in STANS with KALPAC. VERY happy w KALPAC. We did flights and Erbil Hotels; they do the STANS tour.
Hotels-Erbil View and Erbil Quartz reasonable cost.

YPT has a number of options - including combos with going to Iran and others. Great for reaching your 100. (Yes, they also help you with all the paperwork)
