Why did I ask this? I got to see Senegal, Benin, layover in Cameroon (may or may not count as a visit), Kenya ( going back there again in Summer 2025 after Layover), Egypt ( going back there again in Summer 2025 after Layover), Tanzania, South Africa, Rwanda and Ethiopia!
My first African Country I visited in July 29th, 2018 on a layover was Ethiopia. At that time, I was barely making any money but really was so fortunate to experience the country. I remembered I hired the driver without barely paying anything to that driver to take me across Ethiopia. At that time, I was on an airline layover (Ethiopian Airlines) on my way back home from Thailand on Japan Cruise. I was so lucky I didn't need a visa to go to Ethiopia.
I didn't eat anything for a week in Dakar, Senegal not even a single bread. That was because I barely had any money and everything was too expensive. I only could walk from the hotel to the kids playing soccer. However, fortunately; I had the opportunity to play soccer with the kids. That's how I got really interested into watching Soccer African Cup of Nations. The only thing I really enjoyed about Senegal was playing soccer with the kids regardless of the costs barriers that I had encountered. I visited Senegal on July 12th, 2022.
And I also visited Tanzania during COVID-19 on May 19th, 2021 which was a very thrilling experience. I had to wear a mask but I had to stay cautious when being around with others. I was feeling afraid at first till I went. I got to explore the capital of Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam (if it is believed to be a capital). I got to do a Safari with very few costs. However, I didn't get a chance to see a Cheetah especially in South Africa. It was cheaper but had a lot of problems with environment. It is not clean as well as it is very dirty environment. However, when I left Tanzania I had to throw away my lotions as they didn't match up with the minimum requirements to bring at the aircraft.
I was in Johannesburg, South Africa along with my Senegal, Benin and Rwanda trip Summer 2022. I was very happy I went to Kruger National Park. This National Park was a lot better than Tanzania park as I got to see animals much closer than I anticipated. However, I still didn't get a cheetah. I thought it was amazing. And I look forward to hopefully seeing this in Nairobi, Kenya I'm seeing this Summer 2025. In Johannesburg, South Africa is a very dangerous city in Africa. I couldn't go by myself as it was politically dangerous to travel within the city all by yourself. I had to go with a hotel escort. Plus, I almost got in serious trouble with South African Police for not having my passport out in public. Very strict country.
I also was very lucky to have visited Benin because I got my evisa last minute. I didn't know that I had a huge layover but was able to see the country in 6 hours till I got my evisa. I got my Evisa within 20 minutes which was amazing. But then when I explored around; people asked me if I needed a hotel stay but then I said no. I traveled barely any sleep since I wanted to see the country but it got very uncomfortable to sleep at the airports. I saw too much dirty construction work when I was in Contonou, Benin airport in July 2022.
Rwanda-Not much description. But I got to land in Kigali, Rwanda by foot. I got to step out of the aircraft and able to see the darkness of the country lol! I didn't transfer terminal. I literally step my foot on Rwanda soil on a short layover!
Although Cameroon; Kenya; Egypt don't count as visits since I didn't get out of the aircraft; I got to see players in AFCON Soccer Team go to Cameroon and play. However, I will be visiting Somalia, back to Egypt, back to Kenya as well as Tunisia and Morocco this Summer 2025
Here are the pictures I've done in the past 7 years Sub-Subahara Africa!
