I am contemplating a trip to Eritrea, Djibouti,Ethiopia, etc to do the countries of the horn of Africa.
On the list I see two more countries listed in the area, Somalia (Ital. Somaliland) and Somaliland (Brit.)
Where does one have to visit to get to those countries?

Trust me. I have these kind of problems in my current Pre-Trip Planning to Somalia. Fortunately, criss-cross fingers; I'm going to Somaliland where I can do a tour and get my visa and I can have peace of mind! So amazing hopefully! And from there I fly to Mogadishu without having to apply for another visa.
Trust me; I can't believe there has been significant amount of changes when it comes to visa requirements for different countries as an American Citizen.
Hope the trip was great though!
Thanks Pamela,
Maybe we can chat more about this on the cruise in Oct.

David,
Sorry for the late response to your question! The only country that is problematic in the area is Eritrea. No land borders are open except through the Sudan. From Djibouti you would have to fly in via Yemen, and I'm pretty sure you now have to get a transit visa in advance. Somaliland you can overland into via Ethiopia or fly into via Djibouti. As for Somalia, it's a matter of working out the airline schedule. Some people fly into Mogadishu as a round trip from Djibouti. I did it as a one way from Djibouti, Mogadishu, and then on to Nairobi. Airline schedules on the Internet are unreliable. I did everything once I arrived in Djibouti, and it was simply a matter of walking around to the airline (Juba Airways and Daalo) offices to pick up the schedules.
