Hi,
Has anyone experienced Belize; what parts did you travel to, where did you stay and what activities did you like? I am not going for the scuba diving; but for the Mayan Ruins, Jungle interior, and relax at the beach in the south.
Adios,
Idelle

Thanks Craig.
I was there not too long ago in Belize. What is fascinating about the culture is you have a minority Mayan Population there. There are the blacks which make up a majority, Creoles, MexicaN population as well. You must try the local Belizean cooking just like Cajan.Do an overnight in Tikal staying i9n the town of Flores which is quite a ways from the pyramids.
Hi Craig,
Thank you so much for responding. I am staying away from Belize City and I am going to Tikal. I am staying in the south and also Cayo; so I will not have time to go to Altun Ha, but a very good suggestion. When were you in Belize?

Belize City is a dump . The typical low lying shanty city with galvanized iron roofs on the houses. It is not safe to walk the streets in Belize City at night, be careful by day as well. You'll be asked if you want to buy dope by many locals, take a look at the Belize City Jail before you decide if its worth it. A long day trip to Tikal is a must, then theres ''Altun-Ha'' which is 50 km -30 miles north of Belize City that is worth a stop especially if going up to Orange Walk Town. You won't so much find beaches within the coastal towns they're more or less just out of town.
i went to Ambergris cay and Beleze city only
Hi Idelle - since no one has jumped in here I'll add my out of date information from 25 years ago. :-) We came into Belize cross-country after visiting Tikal. Then hoped on a boat in Belize City to get out to Ambergris Caye where we spent our stay at a place that looked like Matachica resort, but it could have been another place. It was individual bungalows. A very fun trip. When are you planning to go?
