ANTARCTICA

Does anyone know of a reasonable cost trip to ANTARCTIA? Fot TCC credit, must have VERY HIGH probability of landing on land OR ice-covered land.

WHAT, WHEN, HOW, AND COST--any info you have.

Thank you, Walt Studdard

  • Thank you Eugene. Enjoy reading. With out a doubt one of our best trips.

  • Quark Expeditions is not cheap but I believe they are currently running deals. I'm not sure any of the companies are cheap to get to Antarctica. We took the Epic Antarctic Trip Feb of 2020 and it was amazing. The trip was beyond words.

  • Sorry, this is the blog that inspired me, should not have posted the other: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2483913-quest-for-the-holy-gr...

  • Thank you for your advice and "hints." We plan a similar trip next Jan/Feb. This will make 7 continents. Walt Studdard of Anniston, AL

We recently visited Antarctica on a Seabourn Quest 21 day cruise from San Antonio, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina. More luxurious than any other cruise we have taken, we were concerned about seasickness on a true expedition ship and opted for a larger ship with stabilizers. We found the cruise using the excellent search function on Vacationstogo.com . It is a bother to figure out which ships offer Antarctica landings and which don't. Hint: Holland America, Celebrity, and Princess don't. We lost a day in Antarctica due to high winds in Ushuaia and forecast high seas in the Drake Passage, still had three landings and two Zodiac tours. I understand that the true expedition ships generally try for two landings per day instead of just one.

Other Seabourn cruises offer a chance at another TCC "country" with a scheduled landing in South Georgia Island. We hoped to fit Easter Island, Paraguay, and Iguazu Falls into one of our South America trips, haven't managed them yet.

Check out Hurtigruten Expedition Cruises. They have several itineraries to Antarctica. Ours embarked from Ushuaia, Argentina for a two day crossing. The captain said it was a very smooth crossing, but the swells were very high and we on the verge of getting sea sick. Went ashore several times on the Palmer Penn., and then to the Falkland Islands so only picked up two countries. It was not a perfect itinerary as we then had 3 sea days to Montevideo, Uruguay. Call me if you would like to discuss. I live in Texas 682.556.1202
